The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is a global non-profit organization and the world’s largest cotton sustainability program The BCI exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment in which it grows, and better for the future of the industry. The Better Cotton Standard System is a holistic approach to sustainable cotton production that covers all three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social, and economic.

Each element – from the Principles and Criteria to the monitoring mechanisms that show results – works in synergy to support the Better Cotton Standard System and the BCI’s credibility. The system is designed to ensure the sharing of good practices and to encourage stronger collective action.
